Volkswagen is giving its electric future a familiar rebrand. The production version of the ID. 2all, will officially launch in 2026 under a new (yet very familiar) name: the ID. Polo.
This isn’t just a rebrand. It’s a deliberate shift in strategy, one that highlights how much naming really matters in the automotive world.
To date, Volkswagen’s EVs have used uniform codes like ID.3 or ID.4. While consistent, they never quite matched the instant recognition of household names like Polo, Golf, or Passat. With the upcoming ID. Polo, VW is aiming to bridge that gap, making its EVs feel just as approachable and trusted as their petrol and diesel predecessors.
What’s Coming Next from VW?
The new EVs will sit on Volkswagen’s MEB Entry platform, a front-wheel-drive architecture designed for mass-market affordability.
-
ID. Polo (2026): From the ID. 2all concept, this will be the brand's first EV to carry a traditional name badge.
-
ID. Every1 (2027): An evolution of the ID.1 concept, set to arrive a year later, it’s tipped to revive a much-loved name from a smaller VW, such as the Up!, Fox, or Lupo.
-
Beyond: Expect to see the return of some of VW’s biggest nameplates in electric form: ID. Golf, ID. T-Cross, ID. Tiguan, and even ID. Passat.
This naming reset is designed to build brand continuity. Whether you’re looking for a compact city car or a family SUV, VW wants the switch to electric to feel less like a leap into the unkown and more like a natural next step.
